Photo and signature size for online forms: what it means and a checklist
What “size” means on a job, exam or admission form (pixels, KB, format, background), how to read the rule, and a checklist before you submit.
Size can mean four things
When a form talks about photo “size”, it can mean the pixel size (for example 200 × 230 px), the printed size (for example 3.5 × 4.5 cm at a DPI), the file size (for example under 50 KB), or all three. Forms also often set the format (JPG) and the background (plain white or light). Read the whole instruction, because a file can pass one check and fail another.
Where to find the rule
The official rule is in the advertisement, prospectus or the help text on the application portal. Rules differ between organisations and can change from one advertisement to the next, so use the rule printed for the post or programme you are applying to. Don’t rely on numbers from a friend’s form or an old blog post.
Photo
Enter the pixel size, or the cm/mm size with its DPI, and the KB range in PhotoSize at /. Turn on the face guide and place your face inside the oval. Pick the background colour that fills any empty edges; the tool doesn’t remove the existing background, so a photo against a plain light wall works best.
Signature
Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen and photograph it in daylight. The signature resizer at /signature-resize/ whitens the paper, darkens the ink, trims the edges and fits it to the size and KB you enter. Signature limits are often small, such as 10–30 KB, but follow your own form.
Checklist before you submit
Pixel size matches exactly, if one is given. File size is under the maximum and over the minimum, if there is one. The file ends in .jpg (or .png only where allowed). The face is clear, centred and evenly lit, and the signature is dark on white. You uploaded the new file, not the original from your gallery.
Privacy
PhotoSize works in your browser: your photo and signature are not uploaded to any server. The downloaded file contains no location (GPS) or camera data. You can close the tab when you are done and nothing is kept.
Finding the advertisement
If you are looking for job advertisements, Asami (https://asami.danixsoft.com) lists jobs with links to the original advertisement, so you can read the photo and signature rules at the source. PhotoSize is not affiliated with any recruiting body, board or authority.
Questions
What photo size is required for online job forms?
It depends on the organisation and the advertisement, so read the rule printed in your own advertisement or on the portal. Once you have it, enter the pixel size and KB limit in PhotoSize to make a file that matches.
What is the difference between pixel size and file size?
Pixel size is the width and height of the image, such as 200 × 230 px; file size is how much storage it uses, such as 45 KB. A form can check both, and the same pixel size can have different file sizes depending on compression.
Is it safe to resize my photo and signature online?
With PhotoSize, yes: the files are processed inside your browser and never uploaded. The downloaded file has no location or camera data.
